Don't give up

So, the House is almost certain to pass this monstrosity of a health-care bill tonight after making an utter travesty of legislative process and representative democracy.  But, as the great Yogi Berra once said, “It ain’t over till it’s over.” Power Line lists some reasons for optimism. Here’s one:

The health care bill’s taxes will go into effect promptly, but its substantive provisions are, for the most part, deferred for four years. This means that we have plenty of time to repeal the legislation. Sure, it will take a new Congress and new President. But repealing this disaster of a bill will by a rallying cry for the American people for years to come. Moreover, even if the Republicans only take over the House in November, and not the Senate, won’t it be possible to throw roadblocks in the way of the bill’s implementation? Won’t budget appropriations be necessary to sustain the various federal tentacles the bill seeks to establish? What will happen if the House simply refuses to fund them?

Go read the rest, and take heart. Even now, attorney generals in several states are preparing legal challenges to push back against Leviathan. The odds aren’t good, but one or more may hit a bulls-eye and gut the bill or have it thrown out altogether.

THE AGE OF THE CALCULATOR.

            One thing we can be sure of is that in the system of capitalism everything has a price. Though everybody would probably agree on the need to eradicate poverty, and seeing the effects of poverty should make us act on that poverty, to remove its devastating effect on human life. However this is capitalism so instead of working on the problem we have to run it through the calculator. Which tells us, surprise, surprise, we can’t afford to do it. Health care, hospitals threatened with closure, staff being under paid and facing redundancy, don’t look at the need, reach for the calculator, yeap, that’s right, we can’t afford it.

       There are exceptions of course, war, at the start of the illegal invasion of Iraq, Chancellor Brown stated that it would receive what was needed, and £1 billion was set aside for the war, no such statement or provisions on poverty and health. By the end of 2010 the Afghan and Iraq slaughter will have cost the British tax payer £18 billion and rising. If we take into account for the social cost of looking after the wound etc it will be over £20 billion.. A lot of money to destroy a couple of countries and kill thousands of civilians.

       Our military budget is over a staggering £33 billion annually. A small fraction of this fund for slaughter would solve all the funding problems of the national health service. That won’t happen, this is capitalism and war is good for corporate business and the state will see that its partner in crime, the corporate greed machine, gets all the help it wants. British businesses have already made app. £3 billion from this misery and carnage.

       This country has the resources to see to the needs of everyone living here and sustain them at a decent standard of living but as long as we tolerate the state and the corporate greed machine to run the calculator over everything, they will set the priorities and human care and welfare will be well down the list. The profit motive will decide where the money and resources go, not the needs of the people.

      We have a choice, we can carry on asking them to be kind to us and not be so eager for profit, which is what we do at the moment, or we can take control of society, forget the calculator and see to the needs of our people in a society based on mutual aid and sustainability. Another world is possible, but we can’t leave it to the shareholders, we have to do it. We won’t change the world by going to work and watching the TV and leaving the politics in the marble halls. Politics belong in the community and on the street, we the people should be the politics. What we have at the moment is a power structure to suit the corporate greed machine a society based on the shareholders priorities. A system that by its structure will deliver exploitation, deprivation and wars. Is this the legacy we wish to leave to our grandchildren?

Dear America, a suicide note from the Democratic Party

Dear America,

I, the Democratic Party, have thought about this alot in the last 9 months. It has been hard, at first I felt so thrilled by the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency. I literally ran into the streets, screaming “They Love us, they really love us!”. To me, the dawn of a new day had come, and I was the head of it. Regrettably, this feeling was short lived.

It all started when the President decided to promote a great and wonderful program that would provide healthcare for all, and at no cost to anyone. I believed what he said, after all he was the chosen one, he who would provide the solution to all the naysayers from the other side, a messiah of the people. I worked hard to make it all work, but then it happened–all these awful people opposed me, not even giving me a chance to make them understand how I could make their dreams come true, even in ways not envisioned by the greats such as Marx, Lenin, or Mao. Why wouldn’t they listen?!

At first it was just anger. I was angry because they wouldn’t listen. But then my anger became deeper, they were getting in the way of “Change”. If nothing else, I would make them listen. I would treat them like a wife who refused to listen to their husband, and perhaps a few good “corrections” would get them to come around.

So I tried to sweep them out of the way. I did everything I could, bludgeoning them about the head and shoulders, calling them names such as “Tea bagger” “racists” and “homophobes”. Nothing worked, and even some of the members of these groups who were Gay, black, asian, or Latino, sort of objected to my characterization. I got even more upset, who were they to talk? They were nothing more than frauds! Everyone knows you can’t have an individual personality under the tutelage of “The one who must be named, and often”!

It went on like this for months, and I kept going from rage to deep depression. It seemed that these people would not give up. They kept talking about this strange belief system called “Liberty” and referring to outdated documents such as the Constitution.

I sit here now at the edge of my seat in the US Congress, and have decided that it will end soon. I will pull the trigger, and make it happen once and for all. I don’t care what happens afterward, because I never had much time for God or such silly concepts. Oh well, here goes….

They could have taken a different route, and I wish it was sad to see them go, but at the same time they did it of their own volition.

States Asserting Their Rights, Pushing Feds Back Into Constitutional Box

According to the New York Times, states are increasingly pushing to limit the federal government’s authority over them. The feds have been overstepping constitutional limits imposed in the 10th Amendment and elsewhere for many years, and once in a while we see states attempt to push back on a particular issue. What’s different this time is that many states are now pushing back on many issues. Guns, drugs, control of the National Guard are just some of the stakes that states are beginning to throw their full legislative weight into.

“Whether it’s a correctly called a movement, a backlash or political theater, state declarations of their rights — or in some cases denunciations of federal authority, amounting to the same thing — are on a roll.”

Moreover, the effort seems to be bipartisan, with both red and blue states joining in fray. The ones with teeth are those which are signed into law, rather than simple resolutions which are essentially meaningless. Some of the actions currently under way in the states include:

  • South Dakota: Gov. Rounds (R) signed a bill into law declaring the regulation of firearms made and used in South Dakota to be outside the purview of the Federal Government.
  • Wyoming: On Thursday, Gov. Freudenthal (D) signed a bill into law declaring the regulation of firearms made and used in Wyoming to be outside the purview of the Federal Government.
  • Oklahoma: the House of Representatives passed a resolution declaring that the people of Oklahoma should be able to vote on a state constitutional amendment opting out of any federally mandated health care programs.
  • Utah: the legislature declared that any federally mandated health insurance to be null and void in Utah, without the approval of the legislature.
  • Utah: the legislature declared Utah has the right to claim federal lands in that state under eminent domain.
  • Utah: the legislature resolved the “inviolable sovereignty of the State of Utah under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution.”
  • Utah: the legislature declared that federal law enforcement authority can be limited by the state, even on federal land in the state.
  • Utah: (last month) Gov. Herbert (R) signed a bill into law declaring the regulation of firearms made and used in South Dakota to be outside the purview of the Federal Government.
  • Alabama: considering a bill that would assert local police authority to supersede federal law enforcement.
  • Tennessee: considering a bill that would assert local police authority to supersede federal law enforcement.
  • Washington: considering a bill that would assert local police authority to supersede federal law enforcement.
  • Montana: (last year) signed a bill into law declaring the regulation of firearms made and used in Montana to be outside the purview of the Federal Government.
  • Rhode Island: considering a bill that would authorize the governor to take control of its National Guard troops, arguing that the federal government’s deployment orders have exceeded their authority.
  • Vermont: considering a bill that would authorize the governor to take control of its National Guard troops, arguing that the federal government’s deployment orders have exceeded their authority.
  • Wisconsin: considering a bill that would authorize the governor to take control of its National Guard troops, arguing that the federal government’s deployment orders have exceeded their authority.

Some of the issues the states have raised, such as control of federal land would seem to stand little chance in the courts. However, there are several issues that demonstrate legitimate examples of the federal government operating completely outside constitutional limitations. Control of the National Guard (a proxy for the militia), intrastate commerce involving guns, and other issues, I believe, stand a chance of rolling back some of the (il)legal precedents set by FDR’s court.

I Have Arrived

Initially, I could not decide whether to post my response to this enigmatic event on this blog or on our more supportive Ninja Nannies blog.  In the end, I have decided that it would be most polite to place my comments here, since I am really responding to a comment left after my posting, Retire Already!

I suspect I have confused you, and so I am honor-bound to clear that up.  You see, I received my first dissenting comment today.  Hence, I have arrived.  The bad news is I blocked the comment for two reasons.  First, the comment came under the auspices of AARP as an insurance quote.  I will neither  advertise, purchase, nor promote that organization.  And  second, it is not nice to lobby for your huge corporation without giving your name.  So…I do appreciate the disention but ask that you come back when your primary personality shows up.

Now then, the reason I thought this post might be perfectly tailored for Ninja Nannies, is that the affect sounded like a petulant child.  And, even more interesting, is that this person sounded really mad at me.  Any of you who have followed me for any length of time know that this type of response is just hilarious and intriguing.  Therefore, I’m going to present this comment as factually as I am able and then pray to the heavens that Mr. AARP comes back, ‘cuz  I love ya’.

Here goes:  Apparently, it is the fault of the “old conservatives” that there is any debate at all on this whole health care thing.  To be fair, I think this person was defending the very presidency of B.O. (His initials are not my fault) and not just my old timey reasoning about health care and government employees.  It is his supposition that the first round of stimulus money is what resuscitated our current economy and saved us from the precipice of disaster.  And, oh yes, this person thinks I am a real meanie because I do not understand how badly the poor folks need this help with their health care and such.  I think the comment even begs the question; “What are you doing to help all those poor, unemployed, uninsured, and downtrodden fellow citizens?”  I hope I have presented that fairly.

Well..here’s what I’m doing.  I’m going to work every day, while investing extra time in creative ways to increase my income.  In short, I am taking responsibility for my own existence.  I am contributing to the public good by paying taxes and providing needed service.  I am the OLD CONSERVATIVE that is buying the groceries, paying the rent, and keeping the lights on for those who are reveling in the extension of unemployment benefits.

I do not have  37 million members like AARP, because I am not a huge, engorged, corporate body like the AARP.  And, oh yeah, I do not have the privilege of lobbying the left-wing members of Congress and tossing quid pro quo around the room like the AARP.

But, I do keep my promises, unlike the AARP, who, like many big insurance titans, often denies coverage to little, old ladies like myself.  I care about you, silly boy (or girl-no offense intended).  I just need you to know that I have a family of my own who needs me to take care of them.  I think we can do better in America.  I think we have the wit and the will to solve all of our problems.  I just think we can do it without pulling the plug on my respirator, murdering any more babies, or leaving a gigantic debt to my grandchildren.

You and I agree that health care reform and welfare reform and education reform are desperately necessary.  I thought that up decades ago when you were, most likely, resting comfortably in your mother’s womb.  I’m on board to help.

Incidentally, I am happy to see that you ended your comment with the words, “God Bless America”.  Though, I am not too sure you meant it.  It seemed a tiny, bit sarcastic.  Forgive me if I am wrong about that.  I hope to hear from you again.  Sorry though because I have to go now.  I need to get up for WORK tomorrow, and this Daylight Saving Time is a real pain!

COLUMBUS, OH, March 12, 2010.  A near-capacity crowd gathered in historic Newport Music Hall to view a live taping of “Freedom Watch with Judge Napolitano” on Monday night. Congressman Ron Paul headlined a slate of panelists on the popular Fox News program, along with Ohio Liberty Council Leaders Chris Littleton, Maurice Thompson, and Jason Rink. The panel, which also featured Ohio State Senator Tim Grendell and Sheriff Richard Mack, covered America’s incremental loss of liberty and state sovereignty. The Ohio State University Young Americans for Liberty hosted the appearance by Texas Congressman Ron Paul (R) and Fox News Judicial Analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano.

At the conclusion of “Freedom Watch,” Congressman Paul spoke for 45 minutes about his plan for restoring a tradition of liberty to both government and individuals. He also urged the young people in the hall to effect change within the political system. Congressman Ron Paul, who received significant support on the Ohio State campus in the 2008 Presidential primary, was asked what advice he could give to the young people in attendance. Encouraging the audience he said, “The responsibility falls on each and every one of us to be self-educated. If you can find a job, find a job to take care of yourself and your family, but you also have to have a job in this defense of our country and in defense of liberty.”

Texas Congressman Dr. Ron Paul has served in Congress in the 1970s, then again in the 1980s. His most recent tenure began in 1996. He has enjoyed greater media exposure over the last year and is in demand as a featured speaker around the country. Dr. Paul’s timely message resonates with young Americans, as well as many conservative Republicans.

A true champion of liberty

I have grown to love the courage of Judge Napolitano and of Rep. Ron Paul.  They are two men who have stood up as champions of liberty and put their dedication to constitutional principles above their own comfort and popularity.

I love the comment that Judge Napolitano makes about the significance of Ron Paul’s dedication to liberty.  He identifies that because Ron Paul has stood for what is right with integrity, the ice has been broken for other liberty lovers, and while true libertarian principles are not yet mainstream, they are being talked about in “mainstream” environments.

This is a lesson we should all take to heart.  Stand up for liberty and true principles in your life.  Do your part, whatever that may be, to defend our constitutional rights and freedoms – whether it is popular or not.  Be an example.  If we do this, others will follow, and the principles understood and embraced by our founding fathers will return to this great country.

Biometric Scans, Are They Reliable?

A biometric is a digital record of part of your body which might be unique to you. Examples of biometrics are:
• Facial image
• Finger-prints (hand geometry)
• Eye-scans

In Britain, these biometrics remain your personal property, you decide who has access to them. Your ability to control access to them secures your privacy, anonymity, and identity. Your biometrics remain your personal property until you commit a crime. Then they are recorded and are held by the State (e.g. the Police). You lose your right to privacy and anonymity. Your biometrics are now a matter of public record…

Facial images are the most acceptable form of biometric to the public. The [British] government has already announced that these will be stored on a microchip on all biometric passports. The facial biometric has a high risk of being abused by government and police for mass surveillance of the public without consent.

The facial biometric has a high failure rate of 1 in 10 people.

Finger printing/scanning has a low acceptance… because it is the same process that is applied when someone is arrested… The Police… are interested in having this on the Identity Register so that they can routinely compare finger prints from crime scenes to those of the public. In practice, finger printing for biometric testing is actually a scan of all fingers and sometimes the complete hand.

The finger print biometric has a high failure rate of 1 in 100 people.

Eye scanning comes in two forms: iris photography and retina scanning. Iris photography involves… shining an infra-red laser into your eye to record the pattern of the iris. Retina scanning is more penetrative and records the pattern of the inside of the eye (retina). The technique is controversial because it is possible to determine certain medical conditions from eye scans and whether you are a recreational drug user. The health risks associated with eye scanning are unknown. The [British] identity card will include eye scans (of the iris).

Eye scanning is new technology, government tests show the failure rate is 1 in 100 people.

It is claimed that existing technology for eye scanning will work at high speed up to 2 feet from the subject and will work through glasses and contact lenses. If the scanning distance from the subject can be increased, this provides the possibility to authenticate people using eye-scans without them being aware.

Finger print patterns are not unique to any one individual. The finger print pattern on your… identity card could easily be the same as that of someone else. Finger prints require a lot of expertise when they are first taken and may require several attempts before a good print is recorded. If you have worn finger prints (such as manual workers), have dirty fingers, or move your fingers, the scan will fail…

Eye scanning requires special cameras and good lighting to work properly. Even so, under these perfect conditions they still have a failure rate of 1 in 100 people. Eye scanning… has limitations… -how many times a day would people be prepared to have their eyes scanned just to get money from the bank or use their credit card?

The proposed [British] identity card and biometric passport will have 2 to 3 biometrics. Under proposed EU regulations, the biometric passport will use face and finger print recognition (the two most unreliable) and the identity card will use all three.

The Home Affairs Select Committee has mentioned that all three biometrics must be taken to reduce the error. Experts suggest this increases the failure rate… [and is] impractical since you will need to provide facial, finger (all fingers), and eye scans (both eyes) under perfect conditions, every time you travel or use the card.

Biometrics are not totally secure. Research in Germany*** showed that biometric scanners could be fooled by fairly simple methods:
• Facial Image: to fool facial recognition you need a good image of the face such as a photograph. More sophisticated systems can be beaten with moving images… [say] someone filming you with a camcorder. They then replay this, perhaps on a laptop screen, back to the scanner and the system will grant access.
• Finger Prints: When you provide a finger scan you leave an imprint on the scanner. This print can… be… ‘lifted’ and re-used later. Some finger scanners can be beaten by breathing over the print that you left behind. Scanners that require pressure and temperature can be fooled by dusting the print with powder, laying adhesive tape onto this, and then pressing with your own finger. You leave copies of your fingerprints on hundreds of items each day at home and at work; these can easily be ‘lifted’ using the powder and tape technique.
• Eye Scans: eye scanners are harder to beat but are not fool proof. These can be beaten by using a good quality print of the eye with a hole in the centre where the pupil is. The image is placed in front of the scanner and your eye against the hole (some systems look for a reflection from the pupil).

All biometrics are at risk from thieves/hackers who can record the information when you submit it to the scanner. They then play back the recorded biometric (and PIN) to the scanner or systems verifying the user. As the link between the identity card, scanners, and Identity Register will use the internet, this kind of attack could become very common.

The biometric identification card are being promoted as the ultimate solution in security, yet their total dependency on biometrics makes them extremely vulnerable. The complexity of providing finger/eye scans whenever they are used and confirming this against the Identity Register (NIR) is impractical in daily life. The high degree of error involved in biometric recognition will result in people being denied access to services. The criteria for biometric testing will have to be relaxed to allow for a larger ‘degree of error’ in the biometrics or requiring just one biometric for authentication. At this point the biometric passport and identity card become redundant and they are of no more value than current forms of identification.

This audio (see links below) is Congressman Eric Massa’s weekly radio address. In it he explains the corruption, bribes, and his opinion that the democrats will stop at nothing to “ram through” the health care bill.

Armed Robbery or Government: Which is Better?

Legendary comedian Jack Benny, known to be a skinflint, was met one night by an armed thug.

“Your money or your life,” said the thug.

Benny was silent. The thug said, “Well, what’s it going to be?”

I’m thinking…I’m thinking!” was Benny’s reply.

Taxation is theft, ladies and gentlemen. If there is the slightest hint of compulsion in taxation, it’s theft. Your money is taken from you under the threat of either loss of freedom of loss of life.

Taxation in the USA is a protection racket. If you pay your taxes willingly and meekly, the government is likely to leave you alone for the remainder of that year. But refuse to be taxed and reject government protection and you will meet with a fate worse than meeting with an armed robber.

Paying taxes is akin to meeting an armed robber…but government is at your door, not in some dark alley. They work in similar ways, but I’m here to tell you that, given the choice between an armed robber and government, always choose the armed robber.

To offer proof, let’s look at some ways that an armed robbery is superior to government taxation.

An armed robbery might occur while you are in your car, your home, a city street or country lane. He might brandish some weapon and relieve you of your wallet, purse or other valuables. He might steal your car. He might even shoot you if you resist, even unto your death. But at least your encounter with an armed robber is customarily between individuals of a small number. Then, he usually goes on his way to seek out his next victim, or maybe to spend the spoils of his robbery.

The government does not act in such a manner. Government robs you in a far more despicable and cruel way. If you are an employee, government reaches into the coffers of your employer and collects the money it wants even before you receive it (can you imagine an armed robber showing up at the payroll office of your employer and demanding a portion of your wages?). If you are self employed, government wants their “cut” monthly. If you own property, you’ll either pay your tax or government will confiscate your property and sell it for the tax they think they are due.

The robber understands the crime he commits, its danger and the possible consequences of his own act. He doesn’t assert a position that he has some prior claim to your money, or that he is going to use your money to benefit you. He is simply an armed robber and nothing more. He hasn’t offered a protection plan in exchange for the money he stole from you against your will. Once the robber takes your money, he usually leaves you alone. He does not follow you wherever you go, proclaiming that he is your master because of the protection he provides to you with the money he stole from you. He does not require your obeisance, homage or loyalty into the future…only your money today. He does not consider you to be his slave or servant. He does not force you to do this thing, or prohibit you from doing that. The robber does not usually come back to you over and over for more money. And if you dispute his authority, the robber does not label you a traitor and his enemy. He does not have other of his armed minions arrest you, charge you with felonies, throw you into his jails or kill you if you resist. In addition to robbing you, the robber does not try to convince you of his good intentions, or try to make you into his slave. A robber is too honorable to perpetrate these heinous acts on individuals.

No, the armed robber cannot be compared in any way to the thieves and murderers known as the “government.”

Government robbers and murderers, unlike the armed robber, do not accept responsibility for their acts as individuals. They hide within the anonymity of the government. They choose certain of their minions, like those of the Internal Robbery Service (IRS) to commit the robberies on the government’s behalf. They bestow law enforcement authority and weapons on these toadies and give them their orders.

In essence and in practice they send forth “swarms of officers to harass the people and eat out their substance” (from the Declaration of Independence). They assert that the government needs the people’s money for its endeavors. If an individual resists, telling the government that he never contracted with the government for its protection or its endeavors, they will inform the individual that he will pay and be protected whether he likes it or not. If he further refuses to comply with their demands, the toadie thugs will at least seize enough of the citizen’s property to sell in settlement of the government’s demands. And that’s just this year’s take.

If the citizen still resists and defends his property, and in that effort, kills any minons, the citizen will either be captured or killed himself. If captured, he will be tried and imprisoned or put to death. Should the citizen enlist the efforts of others of like mind to resist the demands of the government, they will all be labeled “tax cheats, kooks, rebels, traitors,” or any other pejorative moniker that government can use to besmirch their names. But government would also enlist greater forces to put down this armed rebellion, even if hundreds of thousands of rebels took up arms against the government. But happily, one day the tax rebellion could reach a critical mass that was greater than the government’s ability to crush.

And all of this action and consequence flows from one person just wanting to be left alone and resisting aggression from others. The citizen commits no force or fraud upon others…he only seeks to live his life as he sees fit.

All government has the potential for tyranny. The way to minimize tyranny is to create governments with very limited powers and strictly police their actions.

That is one of the reasons I’ve written in past articles about creating a new nation in the model of a corporation, and using only sales tax as the sole method of taxation. The corporate model of government creates a legal written contract between the citizens for the operation of their country. And, as sales tax is the least oppressive and most voluntary form of taxation, it is the best solution to raise revenue to pay for the new nation’s functions.

Inside the Shark Cage, Vol. 66

Quite the Price-is-wrong-B—- game for the Sharks as they beat the Montreal Canadiens, 3-2. If you can tell me where that quote is from, you get 200,000 points.

Montreal goalie Carey Price made it his mission to tick off the Sharks and their fans by flaunting every single save he made. It was sickening seeing him do Statue of Liberty after Statue of Liberty. I’m guessing Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov took notice because he did a few himself.

Last game against New Jersey, the Sharks could only muster 20 shots, and coach Todd McLellan worked on getting more shots and second chance opportunities in practice. It worked. The Sharks attempted 85 shots on goal — 40 hit the net, 26 were blocked and 19 were missed.

Montreal would score first in the first period and would take the lead again 2-1 in the second period.

In between that, Patrick Marleau scored the Sharks’ eighth shorthanded goal of the year off a beautiful deflection. Plenty of other Sharks chances ensued only to be denied by the post. Dan Boyle found iron on a penalty shot during the second frame as well.

Persistence paid off. Dany Heatley and Manny Malhotra put the Sharks ahead for good in the third period. Heatley was in a bit of a scoring drought, and it was good to see Torrey Mitchell assist on a goal (Malhotra’s).

One thing that needs to be mentioned is the absolutely cheap cross check by Maxim Lapierre on Scott Nichol in the third (Nichol never returned). I believe it was Ray Ferraro, the analyst for the game, call it complete garbage. Well put. Nice name by the way.

Unfortunately, no Sharks noticed immediately who did it and nobody ever fully paid Lapierre back. Maybe McLellan made a point to stay disciplined, but come on now. When something like that happens, somebody needs to send a message to that clown Lapierre. Punch him in the face. Lapierre was laughing on the bench! This is where I miss Jody Shelley.

New Paint Job

This is the third different helmet Nabby has had this year. I’m not sure if it’s permanent or not. He’s worn his regular skull/fishhead helmet, a black one and now a Neptune one. Not a big fan of the Neptune one. Something about a topless old man turns me off.

Staying the Same

I should mention the Sharks made no deadline deals, and that they were content with adding Niclas Wallin and trading Shelley. Obviously, they like their talent pool from Worcester, and I can’t say I blame them. During the playoffs, there’s usually one really young guy who breaks out for successful teams. Last year, Bobby Ryan of Anaheim comes to mind. I’m looking for Logan Couture, who’s been killing it in the AHL, to come up playoff time and contribute.

I was kind of hoping the Sharks would add Ray Whitney, former Shark, for scoring depth, but then one of the current players would have had to have gone.

Nowhere Else to Go

 

    My Lion-Friend Mike sent me one of those-mails that we pass around from person to person.  The Subject of this one is 1938 Austria. Since that is the year I was born, the article got my curiosity. I decided the story is worth spreading around the entire country. Every school from coast to coast must tell the story to our kids over and over until they understand what it is about.  Many times, I spread stuff because I want to believe it is true, and it is not.  Each time someone dupes me, I resolve not to let it happen again.  This is so important that I searched the net and found the author, one Kitty Werthmann. She is an activist living in South Dakota. What is her passion? It is simple. Don’t let our freedoms slip away. Read the account below and let me know what you think. Is it possible that a story such as this one is the reason that educators are eliminating history from school curriculums?

America Truly is the Greatest Country in the World. Don’t Let Freedom Slip Away

     What I am about to tell you is something you’ve probably never heard or will
ever read in history books.
     I believe that I am an eyewitness to history.  I cannot tell you that Hitler
took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history.  We elected him by
a landslide – 98% of the vote..  I’ve never read that in any American
publications.  Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and
took Austria by force.
     In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression.  Nearly one-third of our workforce
was unemployed.  We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.
     Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily.  Young people
were going from house to house begging for food.  Not that they didn’t want
to work; there simply weren’t any jobs.  My mother was a Christian woman and
believed in helping people in need.  Every day we cooked a big kettle of
soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people – about 30 daily.
     The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each
other.  Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna , Linz , and Graz were
destroyed.  The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let
them decide what kind of government they wanted.
     We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany , where Hitler had been in
power since 1933.  We had been told that they didn’t have unemployment or
crime, and they had a high standard of living.  Nothing was ever said about
persecution of any group — Jewish or otherwise.  We were led to believe
that everyone was happy.  We wanted the same way of life in Austria . We
were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and
help for the family.  Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted,
and farmers would get their farms back.  Ninety-eight percent of the
population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.
     We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had
candlelight parades.  The new government opened up big field kitchens and
everyone was fed.
     After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we
suddenly had law and order.  Three or four weeks later, everyone was
employed.  The government made sure that a lot of work was created through
the Public Work Service.
     Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women.  Before this, it was a
custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home.  An
able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn’t support his
family.  Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could
retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

Hitler Targets Education – Eliminates Religious Instruction for Children:

     Our education was nationalized.  I attended a very good public school.  The
population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools.
The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to
find the crucifix replaced by Hitler’s picture hanging next to a Nazi flag.
Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn’t
pray or have religion anymore.  Instead, we sang “Deutschland, Deutschland,
Uber Alles,” and had physical education.
     Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance.  Parents were
not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum.  They were told that if
they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first
time.  The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the
third time they would be subject to jail.  The first two hours consisted of
political indoctrination.  The rest of the day we had sports.  As time went
along, we loved it.  Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment
free.  We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful
time we had.  
     My mother was very unhappy.  When the next term started, she took me out of
public school and put me in a convent.  I told her she couldn’t do that and
she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful.  There was a
very good curriculum, but hardly any fun – no sports, and no political
indoctrination.  I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it.  Every
once in a while, on holidays, I went home.  I would go back to my old
friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing.  Their loose
lifestyle was very alarming to me.  They lived without religion.  By that
time unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler.  It seemed
strange to me that our society changed so suddenly.  As time went along, I
realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn’t exposed to that
kind of humanistic philosophy.

Equal Rights Hits Home:

     In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established.  All food was
rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps.  At the same time, a
full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn’t work, you didn’t
get a ration card, and if you didn’t have a card, you starved to death.
Women who stayed home to raise their families didn’t have any marketable
skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.
     Soon after this, the draft was implemented.  It was compulsory for young
people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps.  During the
day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their
barracks for military training just like the boys.  They were trained to be
anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps.  After the labor
corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines.  When I go
back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are
emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors
of combat.  Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an
air raid attack.  I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go
into the labor corps and into military service.   

Hitler Restructured the Family Through Daycare:  

     When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government
immediately established child care centers.  You could take your children
ages 4 weeks to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, 7 days a
week, under the total care of the government.  The state raised a whole
generation of children..  There were no motherly women to take care of the
children, just people highly trained in child psychology.  By this time, no
one talked about equal rights.  We knew we had been had.   

Health Care and Small Business Suffer Under Government Controls:

     Before Hitler, we had very good medical care.  Many American doctors trained
at the University of Vienna .  After Hitler, health care was socialized,
free for everyone.  Doctors were salaried by the government.  The problem
was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything.
When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already
waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full.  If you needed
elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn.  There was no
money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine.  Research at
the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and
emigrated to other countries.
     As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80% of our income.  Newlyweds
immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a
household.  We had big programs for families.  All day care and education
were free.  High schools were taken over by the government and college
tuition was subsidized.  Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as
food stamps, clothing, and housing.  
     We had another agency designed to monitor business.  My brother-in-law owned
a restaurant that had square tables.  Government officials told him he had
to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on
the corners.  Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities.
It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar.  He couldn’t meet all
the demands.  Soon, he went out of business.  If the government owned the
large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.
     We had consumer protection.  We were told how to shop and what to buy.  Free
enterprise was essentially abolished.  We had a planning agency specially
designed for farmers.  The agents would go to the farms, count the
live-stock, then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it.   

“Mercy Killing” Redefined:

     In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps .  The
villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were
closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated.  So people intermarried
and offspring were sometimes retarded.  When I arrived, I was told there
were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good
manual work.  I knew one, named Vincent, very well.  He was a janitor of the
school.  One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting
into a van.  I asked my superior where they were going.  She said to an
institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and
to read and write.  The families were required to sign papers with a little
clause that they could not visit for 6 months.  They were told visits would
interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.   
     As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a
natural, merciful death.  The villagers were not fooled.  We suspected what

was happening.  Those people left in excellent physical health and all died
within 6 months.  We called this euthanasia.   

The Final Steps – Gun Laws:  

     Next came gun registration..  People were getting injured by guns.  Hitler
said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by
matching serial numbers on guns.  Most citizens were law abiding and
dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms.  Not
long after-wards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in
their guns.  The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not
to comply voluntarily.   
     No more freedom of speech.  Anyone who said something against the government
was taken away.  We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but
also priests and ministers who spoke up.
     Totalitarianism didn’t come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943,
to realize full dictatorship in Austria .  Had it happened overnight, my
countrymen would have fought to the last breath.  Instead, we had creeping
gradualism.  Now, our only weapons were broom handles.  The whole idea
sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our
freedom.
     After World War II, Russian troops occupied Austria .  Women were raped,
preteen to elderly.  The press never wrote about this either.  When the
Soviets left in 1955, they took everything that they could, dismantling
whole factories in the process.  They sawed down whole orchards of fruit,
and what they couldn’t destroy, they burned.  We called it The Burned Earth.
Most of the population barricaded themselves in their houses.  Women hid in
their cellars for 6 weeks as the troops mobilized.  Those who couldn’t, paid
the price.  There is a monument in Vienna today, dedicated to those women
who were massacred by the Russians.  This is an eye witness account.

Sen. John McCain: I was misled on bailout

No, he just didn’t care to read it! McCain is a sellout that is backpedalling because of pressure from Libertarians and Conservative Republicans.

But McCain stopped short of calling the TARP a mistake.

Lower Merion PA School District spys on children with computer webcam

The Lower Merion School District, in response to a suit filed by a student, has acknowledged that webcams were remotely activated 42 times in the past 14 months, but only to find missing, lost or stolen laptops – which the district noted would include “a loaner computer that, against regulations, might be taken off campus.”
“Despite some reports to the contrary, be assured that the security-tracking software has been completely disabled,” Superintendent Christopher W. McGinley said in a statement on the district’s Web site late Friday. Officials vowed a comprehensive review that McGinley said should result in stronger privacy policies.
Harriton High School student Blake Robbins and his parents, Michael and Holly Robbins, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit Tuesday against the district, its board of directors and McGinley. They accused the school of turning on the webcam in his computer while it was inside their Penn Valley home, which they allege violated wiretap laws and his right to privacy.
The suit, which seeks class-action status, alleges that Harriton vice principal Lindy Matsko on Nov. 11 cited a laptop photo in telling Blake that the school thought he was engaging in improper behavior. He and his family have told reporters that an official mistook a piece of candy for a pill and thought he was selling drugs.

Violence is not the answer

Mike’s commentary: Most American’s have a “grudge against the Internal Revenue Service”, but we don’t crash and burn. This event below is a pathetic cowardly act of suicide terrorism. People should work within the system to make the change they want, or leave the country.

  • (CNN) — An Austin, Texas, resident with an apparent grudge against the Internal Revenue Service set his house on fire Thursday and then crashed a small plane into a building housing an IRS office with nearly 200 employees, federal officials said.

    Federal authorities identified the pilot of the Piper Cherokee PA-28 as Andrew Joseph Stack III, 53.

    “This appears to be an intentional act by a sole individual,” Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said at a news conference.

    Two people were critically injured in the crash and one person remained unaccounted for late Thursday afternoon, Acevedo said. Eleven others were treated for minor injuries.

    A body was recovered from the wreckage Thursday night, but authorities did not immediately identify the person as either the pilot or the missing person.

    A fire created by the crash had been put out, save for some small areas, officials said. Fire crews were expected to continue to work through the night.

    Mumps outbreak spreads among people who got vaccinated against mumps

    To hear the vaccine pushers say it, all the recent outbreaks of mumps and measles are caused by too few people seeking out vaccinations. It’s all those “non-vaccinated people” who are a danger to society, they say, because they can spread disease.

    Reality tells a different story, however: It is the vaccinated people who are causing these outbreaks and spreading disease!

    Just this week, an outbreak of mumps among more than 1,000 people in New Jersey and New York has raised alarm among infectious disease authorities. The outbreak itself is not unusual, though. What’s unusual is that the health authorities slipped up and admitted that most of the people infected with mumps had already been vaccinated against mumps.

    In Ocean County, New Jersey, county spokeswoman Leslie Terjesen told CNN that 77 percent of those who caught mumps had already been vaccinated against mumps.

    Usually this information is censored out of the press. The vaccine industry wants the public to believe that vaccines are effective at preventing infection. So the media typically refrains from reporting what percentage of the infected people were already vaccinated against the infectious disease.

    But in this case, the 77 percent figure slipped out. And now intelligent observers are increasingly seeing the truth about these vaccines:

    * Infectious disease vaccines simply don’t work. If they did, then why did all these children who were already vaccinated still get mumps?

    * Vaccines may actually increase your risk of disease. Notice that far more vaccinated children were stricken with mumps than non-vaccinated children?

    * The people who administer vaccines never tell you that their vaccines don’t really work. They tell you that you’ll be “protected” with the vaccine, implying a near-100% level of protection (which is blatantly false).

    * Even if you’re vaccinated against a disease, you may still catch that disease anyway! So what’s the point of the vaccine?

    The lies of the CDC

    The CDC claims the mumps vaccine is 76 to 95 percent effective, but they offer no scientific evidence whatsoever to support that claim. To date, there has never been a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled study published on the mumps vaccine in humans. The so-called “scientific” evidence supporting these vaccines is purely imaginary.

    I still have a $10,000 reward offered for anyone who can provide a single scientific study proving the safety and effectiveness of any H1N1 vaccine (http://www.naturalnews.com/027985_H…). To date, not a single person has stepped forward to claim that $10,000. I might as well raise the reward to a million dollars, because I’ll never have to pay it: There is no scientific evidence proving the safety and effectiveness of these vaccines!

    Does being vaccinated raise your risk of infection?

    The CDC also says that 2009 was a bad year for mumps outbreaks. They blame all the people who refuse to be vaccinated for causing these outbreaks. Their theory, of course, is based on the imaginary idea that mumps vaccines halt mumps infections. But once again, it’s all imaginary! As we saw this week in New Jersey, most of the people who get infected in these outbreaks are the very people who were vaccinated!

    If mumps vaccines actually worked, then what you should see instead is the mumps infection spreading among those who refused the vaccines, right? It’s only logical.

    In fact, if vaccines really work, then why should the vaccinated people be bothered at all by those who don’t get vaccinated? After all, if their vaccines protect themselves from disease, then non-vaccinated people are no threat to them, right? So why are vaccinated people so pushy about forcing non-vaccinated people to get vaccinated?

    The shocking truth about infectious disease and vaccines, however, is very different from what you’re told by the drug companies (and the health authorities who pander to their interests): Some vaccines may actually promote the very diseases they claim to prevent!

    That may be why 77% of those who recently got mumps in New Jersey were, in fact, the very people who were vaccinated against mumps. The vaccine may, in fact, weaken your immune system against future infections, causing you to become more susceptible to future outbreaks.

    The great vaccine hoax exposed

    Take a look at nearly every outbreak of infectious disease in recent years and you’ll find the same pattern. You’ll either see that most of those who got infected were already vaccinated, or you’ll see those statistics completely stripped out of all media reports.

    It’s all part of the grand vaccine cover-up. Vaccines simply do not work as promised. Vaccines do not offer the level of protection against infectious disease that they promise. In fact, vaccines are far less effective than vitamin D in preventing infections!

    Instead of shooting up our children with over 100 different vaccines (which is now standard practice, by the way), what we should be doing is boosting their immune function with vitamin D, zinc and immune-boosting nutrients from medicinal plants. That would protect them from all common infectious diseases at the same time, and it doesn’t require needles or the use of dangerous chemical preservatives like thimerosal, which is linked to autism.

    Don’t believe the recent attacks on Dr. Wakefield. This was an organized smear campaign designed to discredit Dr. Wakefield before he could publish the results of his “14 monkeys” study that shows severe neurological harm caused by vaccines given to young primates (http://www.naturalnews.com/028109_A…).

    There is a way to protect people from infectious disease: Give them the immune-boosting nutrients their immune systems need to defend themselves against disease. Outbreaks of infectious disease would plummet along with seasonal flu deaths.

    Of course, so would sales of vaccines. And that’s the whole reason you never hear health authorities recommending vitamin D even though it’s far more effective than any vaccine at preventing infectious disease (http://www.naturalnews.com/027385_V…). The CDC, we now know, is little more than the marketing branch of Big Pharma’s vaccine operations.     Vaccines make lots of money, but they don’t make people immune to disease. The fact that so many vaccinated people are being stricken with the very diseases they were vaccinated against is proof that vaccines fail to deliver what they promise.

    I agree with Celia Walden on this one. The prevailing popular culture of course, under ZanuToryLieBorg, has forced ordinary people without much will-power, and of either sex, to have such events. They are invariably depressing, expensive and humiliating for the Principals.

    My first wife and I, in 1973, decided to host a small dinner at a rather new and soul-less hotel in Winchester, for our parents and closest friends. (The hotel’s soullessness was not its fault.)

    Thirty years later, my present wife and I decided to host a small dinner, a couple of days beforehand, at our flat in Battersea, for our closest friends, such as those who would be officiating closely on the Saturday, such as “witnessing”, or cooking the grub in the kitchen for everybody, and buttling, after we all shambled back from the Church round the corner. Most of our parents were then either dead, or geographically inaccessible such as my old-fella, who was birdwatching on the marshes round Antwerp, and thought that was more pressing.)

    Liberal Classical education will destroy the need for these sad public-humiliation-events.

    Let the Restoration Begin

    HOW can WE the People regain control of OUR right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?” WE have been delving into what won’t work in order to find what will work.

    Last time I asked for your help (the 8 Re’s from the last post). The title of the list “redux” and every item on the list used the same two letters, ‘R’ & ‘E’ or ‘Re’. Restoration uses the same first two letters, also. ‘Re’ is an important prefix and quite simply means to do again. Like the word – ‘rejoice,’ for example. In order to rejoice, WE first needed to have joy. The point here is that these things are available and we just want to re-do or re-peat these over and over. WE want to re-store.

    Today: Let the Restoration Begin!

    WE the People must know and understand what a restoration is and what WE are restoring. This is not a construction, or a re-construction. It is not building, re-building or re-modeling . It is a re-storing or a restoration of the original. It is something WE already had and WE already have!

    In previous posts in this blog, I have taken great lengths to try and uncover, what has been hidden from most of US for well over 100 years (specifically since 1861). The words ‘Legal Fiction,’ were introduced. WE have looked at various metaphors and ideas to try and fix an image in our minds, as to what legal fiction is. Concepts from the series of movies known as ‘The Matrix’ were used as was the ‘rabbit hole,’ in the fantasy world of ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ Plainly and legally, legal fiction is as follows.

    Legal Fiction

    In the common law tradition, legal fictions are suppositions of fact taken to be true by the courts of law, but which are not necessarily true. They typically are used to evade archaic rules of procedure or to extend the jurisdiction of the courts in ways that were considered useful, but not strictly authorized by the old rule.

    Legal fictions were used by courts prior to the existence of handling offences. In a situation where A sells stolen property to B, B can then be accused of handling stolen property. Legal fiction has been used to declare that: as A did not have the power to sell the property to B, B was considered to have also stolen the property, and was therefore guilty of theft.

    The term “legal fiction” is not usually used in a pejorative way in spite of the negative connotation of the phrase, and has been characterized as scaffolding around a building under construction.

    What does ‘Legal Fiction’ have to do with restoration? What the following image endeavors to illustrate is that legal fiction is not real. It is a fake or a façade. It does not exist. It is fantasy. Take a look at the image below.

    The image is a model of OUR U.S. Capitol. For OUR purposes here, this represents our Republic; OUR Constitution; OUR government; OUR rule of Law.

    With the lighting, the image and black background, it is accepted as being at night. Night represents secrecy or the cover of darkness.

    If you look closely, scaffolding can be seen in the picture. It is hard to tell exactly where the scaffolding is. Is it in front of, in the center (sandwiched between two) or behind the building? But once WE see it, WE know it is there. Remember, scaffolding is used as an analogy for a building under construction. So what it appears to be that what WE are looking at is OUR republic, under construction. This can be understood as amendments to our Constitution; other purported laws of the land and states or as a work in progress.

    What WE think and believe is OUR Republic, is actually a façade. It is like a whole town built for a western movie set. From the front it looks real, but it actually has no sides, innards or back.

    Look closely. Can you see a faint image of the capitol’s rotunda just behind and to the left of the one lit and in the foreground? What WE are actually looking at is a building which appears to be an exact replica of the one in front. Darkness and the scaffolding make this difficult to see, but this is what is there. And what is this dark, unseen and almost unknown replica? It is our Republic! It is not a replica. The replica is the one in front; the one that looks all pretty and lit up. It’s the one WE think and believe is our republic. It is not an exact replica! It is a fake and it has been altered!

    The scaffolding (legal fiction), was used to construct this façade or fake government. The real capitol is behind the fake one.

    Look at the center of the lit capitol rotunda in the foreground. Can you make out the colors of blue and gold and the form of a chair? It is a throne and representative of a monarchy, or a dictatorship. Call this usurpation, treason or tyranny.

    This is not to blame a person, persons or party. It is not another conspiracy theory. Whether by original intent, present knowledge with intent, or ignorance, these are the facts. This is a system, a corrupt, corruptible and corruptible system THAT MUST BE TORN DOWN AND TORN OUT!

    This system, this scaffolding, this legal fiction, this United States, Inc., this façade, has been under construction for well over 100 years!

    This system has systematically tried to rewrite history, OUR Constitution and OUR unalienable rights that among these are, “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

    This system has tried to replace the United States FOR America with the United States OF America. This system has tried to replace OUR Republic (rule by law) with a democracy (rule by majority). This system has tried to replace OUR unalienable (rights which cannot be surrendered or taken) with inalienable rights (freedoms – privileges which can be surrendered and taken). This system has tried to take the sovereignty of the several states and replace them with districts under the jurisdiction of the District of Columbia, Inc. This system has tried to replace OUR citizenship in the state where WE reside and replace it with Citizenship of (under the jurisdiction of) the United States (the District of Columbia, Inc.). This system has tried to take OUR Liberties (unalienable rights) and replace it with freedoms (inalienable privileges).

    This system has tried to bind US under legal contract in replacing bearer bonds, legal tender, money backed by gold or silver as instruments for services rendered, acquisitions acquired and for payments of all debts public and private, with Federal Reserve Notes. This system has tried to bind us under contract in our acceptance of this counterfeit money and illegal bearer bonds. But no contact is valid unless all parties knowingly agree to the terms and have all signed the contract. No representative may sign on behalf of any other. No power of attorney is valid unless for the cause of a non-adult prohibited from entering into any such binding agreement or it has been proven that physical or mental incapacitation, can show cause that the party is unable to sign the contract for herself or himself.

    This system has tried to systematically tear down the government OF the People, By the People and FOR the People and replace it with a master relationship (even if benevolent), for whom we serve as its servants; its slaves for our very existence.

    Ladies and Gentlemen, it is OUR Republic that WE the People are to restore. Nothing has changed! OUR Republic has not changed! OUR sovereignty has not changed nor has the sovereignty of the several states. OUR Liberty has not and cannot be forfeited, surrendered or taken from US! Our Constitution has not changed!

    WE the People are living inside and outside of a lie, a façade, and a fake legal fiction fantasy called, the United States, Inc.; seated in the District of Columbia, Inc!

    WE the people must tear down the scaffolding and this legal fiction façade and rip it out to reveal and to restore, OUR Republic which still stands!

    WE the People know now, what has to be restored (OUR Republic). Now WE the People need to know, HOW to restore it!

    I have promised and will keep my promise. I promise you that what WE can do about all of this and HOW to do it is coming! It is really quite simple. It will not take forever or even a lifetime. It will only take a small amount of time and the participation of each 1 of WE the people. It may be difficult, but WE can do it IF, WE the People so will to do it. Do WE so will?

    What may seem as insurmountable odds in regaining control of our liberties may appear hopeless, but there is an answer! Stay tuned here as we continue.

    Is Paul Dennis The Hero Of ClimateGate?

    The UK Guardian is reporting that Dennis, whose ice-core temperature studies are at odds which the Church of Carbon Come, has been questioned several times about leaking the emails and data files from the CRU at East Anglia.

    Dennis refused to sign a petition in support of Jones when the scandal broke. He told friends he was one of several staff unwilling to put their names to the Met Office-inspired statement in support of the global warming camp, because “science isn’t done by consensus”.

    University sources say the head of department, Professor Jacquie Burgess, received a letter from Dennis at the height of the email uproar, calling for more open release of data. He appears to have disapproved of the way Jones resisted FoI requests.

    Russian hackers? A conspiracy of denialist flat-earthers? Not so much. Bwuhahahaha

    If Dennis is the leaker, he deserves  a ticker-tape parade and all the rock-star accoutrements he can get. Great work, Paul–you may have saved science.

    John Adams & Thomas Jefferson: From Friendship to Antagonism to Reconciliation

    Introduction
    I was tempted to title this piece “The DNA of the United States of America, Part 3.”

    I have already written of the rivalry between Adams and Jefferson for the Presidency of the USA in the year 1800, and on the autobiography of Jefferson.

    What stimulated my writing of this current article was the arrival of a book I ordered, The Adams-Jefferson Letters, which contains letters between the men, and between Abigail Adams and Jefferson, from 1777 until the deaths of the two men in 1826.

    I was recently reminded of these letters while viewing the HBO television series, John Adams on Swedish TV. I also subsequently ordered and viewed a videotape of the musical play 1776, which I had seen several decades ago. The play was centered on John Adams and his relentless efforts to get the Second Continental Congress to declare independence from Great Britain.

    I find this period in our country’s history endlessly fascinating. I return often to the biographies and histories of the most well-known figures and, now, some of the lesser known but no less important, such as Dr. Benjamin Rush who was the instrument through which Adams and Jefferson resumed their friendship after many years of bitter enmity, at least on the part of Adams who was the more emotional of the two men.

    So, I bravely wrote the first draft of this article, focusing on the implications of the frequency and of the time line the letters occupy, and forwarded it to a friend for criticism. (He, coincidentally, is currently in the process of viewing the same six-part HBO series on John Adams). His remarks are so cogent and pithy I asked to use them here, and he consented.

    I learned from the video that Jefferson was a bit of a libertarian radical for his time, and Adams a bit of a buttoned-down conservative. One aspect of all this is that it took the magic of George Washington’s leadership to keep them all together for the sake of the country, and that may be an…important lesson for today — that we lack a real leader like Washington.

    I don’t see these protagonists’ philosophical differences as akin to the political warfare we have today. In Jefferson and Adams’ day, no matter the philosophical differences, each person knew the stakes were unimaginably high. We were a small and fragile nation, always vulnerable to attack from within or without. There was no guarantee we would prevail or even survive, and the Founding Fathers faced up to this reality with courage and discipline, as well as a keen sense of reality.

    Today our politicians live in a Never Never Land where America is transcendent, there is no real perceived risk to us or our way of life, and debates are based on academic philosophies that have not been vetted in the real world. Today’s politicians lack the seriousness of people who know they are playing for life-and-death stakes.

    With my friend’s remarks as preface, I now offer some detail, derived from the Letters, to reveal some of the personal dynamics between these two men, without whom we would not be enjoying the liberties our independence from Great Britain afforded us, to whatever degree these liberties remains.

    The Declaration of Independence
    In June of 1776 Adams and Jefferson were appointed by the Second Continental Congress, along with Benjamin Franklin and two others, to write a declaration of independence from Great Britain. Here is Adams’s account of how Jefferson became the writer of the initial draft:

    The subcommittee met. Jefferson proposed to me to make the draft. I said, ‘I will not,’ ‘You should do it.’ ‘Oh! no.’ ‘Why will you not? You ought to do it.’ ‘I will not.’ ‘Why?’ ‘Reasons enough.’ ‘What can be your reasons?’ ‘Reason first, you are a Virginian, and a Virginian ought to appear at the head of this business. Reason second, I am obnoxious, suspected, and unpopular. You are very much otherwise. Reason third, you can write ten times better than I can.’ ‘Well,’ said Jefferson, ‘if you are decided, I will do as well as I can.’ ‘Very well. When you have drawn it up, we will have a meeting.’ (Source).

    From this beginning Adams and Jefferson became friends and, after the death of Jefferson’s wife Martha Wayles Jefferson in 1782, Jefferson was sometimes a guest in the home of Abigail and John Adams where Abigail and Jefferson also became friends.

    The friendships between the Adamses and Jefferson resulted in a total of 380 letters written from one to the other, between 1777 until the death of the two men on July 4, 1826, exactly 50 years after they had signed the Declaration of Independence (along with 54 others).

    After Independence and before the Constitution

    It should be remembered that although we became independent of Great Britain by declaration in 1776, we did not have a governmental constitution until 1789. During this period the decisions of Continental Congress and then, by adoption in 1781, the Articles of Confederation, provided the framework for governance of the combined states. There were 14 presidents of the Continental Congress (two served twice) until George Washington was inaugurated as the first U.S. president, on April 30, 1789 under the new Constitution, with John Adams as his Vice President.

    Although there were not organized political parties until the election of 1896, there were those who called themselves Federalists and those who identified themselves as Democratic-Republicans. These groups, and later parties, had importantly differing views on the proper role of the new federal government. Simply put, the Federalists wanted more power centralized in the federal government, and the Democratic-Republicans wanted the minimum necessary accruing to the central government for the purposes laid out in the Constitution. Adams was for the Federalists and Jefferson was for the Democratic-Republicans. As they became political rivals, these differences put a cloud over their friendship which was not cleared until well after both had been out of power.

    The 380 Letters

    A mentioned above, the letters began in 1777, but were few in number until year 1785 when there were 69 letters between them, plus eight each between Abigail Adams and Jefferson. In the following two years there were 42 and 43 letters, respectively. In 1788 there were 12 letters.

    While Adams was Vice President in the eight years 1789 through 1796, when Adams was elected President to succeed Washington, they averaged slightly over three per year between them.

    Because of the odd method of choosing vice presidents (since improved) Jefferson was Adams’s Vice President from 1796-1800. There were no letters between them during this period.

    Jefferson was elected President over Adams in 1800, and they returned to an intermittent and scanty correspondence in 1801 and 1804.

    Jefferson was reelected, again over Adams and others, in 1804. The two men did not correspond again for eight years until January, 1812 when Madison was elected to his second term as fourth President of the USA.

    The cause of their renewed correspondence and, concomitantly, their even deeper friendship was by the agency of their mutual friend Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Here is some background to this initiative from commentary in the book (excerpted and edited):

    One of the more bitter aspects of the retirement of John Adams from the presidency in 1800 was the fact that several of those with whom he had early co-labored during the Revolution had become his fervent adversaries. This was especially true in the case of Thomas Jefferson who, although serving closely with Adams during the Revolution, had become one of his chief enemies during President Washington’s administration. This feud not only deeply embittered Adams emotionally but it also troubled Dr. Rush, who was still a close friend of both Adams and Jefferson.

    In his concern over the relationship between these two, one night several months after Jefferson’s retirement from the Presidency in 1809, Dr. Rush had a dream about the two which he felt was important. On October 17, 1809, he wrote down an account of that dream and sent it to John Adams.

    At the time this letter was written, Jefferson and Adams were still vehement opponents. Adams received the dream from his dear friend with an open heart. Shortly after this letter, Rush, who was also a dear friend of Jefferson, initiated a correspondence with Jefferson on the same topic, attempting to reconcile the two. Jefferson, too, listened to Rush with an open heart, and tentatively reached out to Adams with a gracious letter. Adams, as he had promised, did “not fail to acknowledge and answer the letter,” and thus began a cordial renewing of a warm and sincere friendship between the two. Source

    Adams took the first step by writing a brief letter to Jefferson on New Year’s Day, 1812, the subject being a “Packett containing two Pieces of Homespun” which Adams sent under separate cover to Jefferson. Jefferson responded on January 21 and they exchanged 13 letters in this year.

    Year 1813 saw an explosion of pent-up expression from Adams who wrote 29 letters to Jefferson; the latter, as was his habit, wrote fewer but longer letters, only 6. Abigail and Jefferson also exchanged one letter between them this year.

    They continued a regular, but less frequent correspondence until their deaths in 1826. Abigail and Jefferson also exchanged, typically, one letter per year until her death in 1818.

    I offer, in closing, two excerpts from the book of letters, chapter 9, headed: “Whether you or I were right posterity must judge:”

    Even in retirement Adams could not view the political scene… with the detachment that Jefferson achieved. Charges of corruption against the Republican Presidents Adams treated with contempt, even though he told Jefferson, “in the Measures of Administration I have neither agreed with you or Madison.” As for non-importation, non-intercourse (with other nations) embargoes, the structure of the judiciary, or neglect of the Navy, “whether you or I were right Posterity must judge (May, 1912)…

    “By the summer of 1813 their accord was re-established, despite a few old wounds exposed and irritated. But their mutual friend who had brought about the rapprochement died on April 19. As Adams and Jefferson mourned Rush’s death, they took count of the surviving signers of the Declaration of Independence. Beside themselves, only six (of the 58) were alive.

    I think there is a lesson here for our present-day representatives, in the two branches of government where the people directly choose: there can be strong and completely opposing points of view, hard fought in public and privately, but public benefit can be maintained through disciplined argument, and through the respect such argument can engender among men of good will.

    I am again reminded to honor and revere the memory and the contributions of these two men, of disparate background and disposition, to our nation and to our freedom from tyranny.

    But, as my friend points out, strong and purposeful leadership, mindful of the endless dangers in the world, is the key ingredient in maintaining our liberties.

    How can the United States become a loser in a competitive world?

    It’s easy: just follow and implement the Texas State Republican Platform!

    With its clearly laid out plan that says one thing that seems a step in the right direction only to advocate guidelines that will achieve its opposite, this is a timely and important document to turn a great state into a laughing stock, a proud state into a righteously pious theocracy, an able state to alter intelligent and capable children into idiots.

    The "Give me" generation!

    The “Give me” generation.  An “Instant gratification” society.  These are only a couple of the phrases used by our older generation to describe our current generation and their view on our nation.  

    “Most people want to think they are entiteled to something, when they’re not”  says a friend of mine as he and I talk about the U.S. and its current  state.  Even though there is a significant difference in our age I find myself agreeing with him.  To many people today believe that the government is here to give hand-outs and do the jobs we don’t want too.  But they are not!  The government is here to offer us defense, liberty and the ability to pursue happiness.

    Twenty years ago if you wanted to own your own home or go to college you worked your ass off and earned the money to do it yourself.  Now you send paperwork to the government and they pay it for you.  I’m not talking about the men and woman who served in the military.  Those people actually gave something to our country to earn the right for our tax dollars to pay for their college.  But these kids who come out of highschool, get government grants for a degree in Art ,than go work for a government  funded job give absolutely nothing back.  I know  a lot of people who will disagree with this point because they think art is important.  I’m not saying it’s not but for a country that has 1.85 million people living on the streets and another 35 million people living below the “poor” line,  what exactly is art doing to improve on this?

     We need to stop depending on the government to take care of every little problem that we encounter and stand on our own feet.  This will help to cut the governments footprint in society and allow more privately owned  companies to take over avenues of business thus employing more people who don’t get paid with their own tax dollars.

    Conspiracy, Census and the Case for Secession

    After reading my title, I suppose many will automatically think I am some sort of anarchist or revolutionary. If so, then thank you for the complement. If only I could be thought of in such an honorable way?

    The very intrusive and invasive U.S. Census can be used to make a case for secession. Not that a case for secession can’t be made using a myriad of other criteria, but due to the original reasoning for the census, I think one can show that any country with more than 300,000,000 people cannot possibly remain a free republic. It simply is not possible. Our nation was intended to be several states, with a federal system to oversee the protection of individual rights. It has become a single nation-state with all control coming from a central-planning leviathan. This is an untenable situation and was bound to lead to tyranny. This in and of itself is reason enough to pursue secession.

    First, let’s look at the Census issue. Stated in Article 1, Section 2 of our constitution:

    Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states which may be included within this union, according to their respective numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole number of free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years; and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual enumeration shall be made within three years of the first meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent term of ten years, in such manner as they shall by law direct. The number of representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty thousand, but each state shall have at least one Representative.

    There are a couple of things that stand out in this passage. First, an actual enumeration (simple head count) shall be made every ten years. This count of heads is all that is authorized by the constitution, and is to be done so that a proper ratio between the representatives and the people can be determined, and to also determine the proper apportionment of direct taxes among the several states. As an aside, the number of representatives has been fixed at 435 since 1911. The total population of the United States in 1911 was 93,863,000. Obviously, our population has increased almost three and one half times since then without any change in representation. Secondly, the writers of our current constitution said that there should not be more than one representative for every thirty thousand people, and going forward from the original 65 members, the rule of one representative for every thirty thousand people was generally accepted. As I will discuss later, there were no fixed upper limits on the number of representatives, but the Founders did caution against too large a number; but why?

    The ratio of representatives to people was not exact as heavily populated centers would have fewer representatives per capita, but the end result was to be full and fair representation of all the people. Since the number of representatives has been fixed for almost one hundred years, what is the point of the current Census? Since no additional representation is even being discussed and no talk or legislation exists to change this number, is the Census now valid and/or constitutional? I do realize that specific district changes do occur and that apportionment of some taxes (actually very little) is still constitutional, but I think a very good argument could be made that not only is the modern Census completely unnecessary, but that it might now be unconstitutional as well due to the fact that the primary reasoning for this count has been thrown aside by the federal government. If no count will result in a change of representation, then the costly and invasive U.S. Census should be stopped immediately. Obviously, the modern census count is used not to determine representation as originally intended anyway, but is used as a tool to determine the improper and unconstitutional amounts of wealth redistribution, and to gain personal and private information about the citizenry. The coming census also includes a precise mapping by GPS of every address. What in the world does locking in my home position in a government database have to do with representation or apportionment? This information, by the way, is none of their damn business! This in and of itself is reason enough to scrap this invasion of privacy because the entire census count is nothing more than a farce to help expand government interference into private matters.

    What does all this mean? A breakdown of the numbers is useful here. Initially, there was one representative for every 30,000 people. In 1911 when the representative number became fixed at 435, there was one representative for every 216,000 people. Currently, there is one representative for approximately every 760,000 Americans. If we were to go back to the original plan, we would now have to have about 11,000 representatives. Is anybody up to 11,000 campaigns and elections every two years? Before you answer, think about the unseen consequences.

    Karen DeCoster pointed out to me that having thousands of representatives, as ridiculous as it sounds, might prove to be beneficial. Can you imagine the bottleneck if 11,000 politicians were trying to agree on a particular piece of legislation? Nothing would ever get done, rendering the political process mute. This might not be a bad idea after all, as gridlock is a desired end. Gridlock stifles political aggression and is certainly a friend of freedom.

    Times have certainly changed over the past 200 years or so. James Madison once thought that the number of representatives, as long as not too small or too large, was not a big issue. He thought this because he had faith in the American people; in that they would not continue to vote for those who would advance tyranny, and considering the times, he was most likely correct in his assumption. What in the world would Madison think if he were alive today? His trust in the American people would be shaken beyond repair. How could anyone today believe that our liberty is safe in the hands of the imbecilic and unenlightened American voter?

    His foreknowledge was evident when he said:

    What change of circumstance, time, and a fuller population of our country may produce, requires a prophetic spirit to declare, which makes no part of my pretensions.

    Judging from his words, he understood that times would bring change and that larger and larger populations would cause problems in representation. Given the times of our Founders, one representative for every 30,000 people seemed proper, but today, one for every 760,000 is absurd. Let’s face it; this country has become too large for freedom to survive under its present form of government. Instead of freedom, we now have socialism, fascism and tyranny. So what can be done about it? I think there is only one logical answer: Secession!

    Secession should not be feared but embraced. Our country was borne by secession and in my opinion can only be saved by secession. Secession in my mind is an inherent, God-given right. If one is bound by or to the state by force, freedom has no validity and cannot exist. Secession is the virtual unbinding of the chains of tyranny. It is the emancipation if you will, from the servitude of the state and awakens the spirit of liberty. What better solution is there when extreme conditions exist?

    Many will balk at the idea of secession but there is no need. Our country would not be torn apart, but restored, by separating ourselves from a tyrannical government. Secession is not a breakup of the country because the country will remain intact. The spirit of America would not be lost but regained. The oppressive power of the federal government would be curtailed, and in many cases eliminated. Just think of the benefits if the federal government’s power was eradicated. Massive taxation and inflation would all but disappear. Unjust and unholy foreign aggression would not be possible. Spying, wiretapping and unwarranted searches would be a thing of the past. The growing police state and standing armies could not be funded at current levels and would have to be pared back. U.S. military bases in other countries would have to be closed and all military personnel could come home where they belong. The insane war on drugs and its accompanying prison-state apparatus would shut down. With these changes, torture would no longer be the rule of the day, and civil and just law could return. In other words, a return to freedom would be evident and real prosperity would once again be available for all to seek. Does this sound euphoric? Of course it does, because freedom and free markets are euphoric in a real way, unlike the so-called socialistic euphoria based on theft and oppression.

    This is serious business! It is important, it is imperative, and time is of the essence! Any secession from this tyrannical government, whether by states, portions of states, or regions, will require gargantuan efforts by individuals. This government will never be receptive of any plan to limit its power, and secession is a virtual elimination and negation of centralized government. No break from this behemoth can or will be achieved through government action or government process. That would be an exercise in futility and would fuel even more oppression. It will require that those involved, whether individuals, groups of individuals or entire states, not obey any unconstitutional or unjust federal law. As should be evident, this will be no easy task, but the rewards of victorious secession are freedom, liberty and prosperity.
